While I had one baby with me, and other babies within the cradle would work 12 hour shifts grinding floors and cutting off wallpaper. Ha! The house was starting to look good, but there were a few things that needed to be left. It was going to take an enormous amount of effort and shopping my favorite to furnish this home. To stay on budget I started going to estate sales along with my three sons to find diamonds in the rough. We had a weekly schedule which consisted of spending the week from Thursday through Saturday walking around sale houses and garages, shopping for new and used items. I then spent the remainder of the week sanding and painting the driveway. It looked a bit like this... Here is where my love for the restoration of antique furniture began. When our home was finished, I didn't want to quit! The local market had space to let me sell my pieces. I eventually had so many pieces I didn't have a clue what to do with them and outgrew the space. In my own home, I began hosting open houses, where over 1000 people could come in and buy any item they wanted on the first floor over the course of a weekend. This is where my business Growing Days was born. Growing Days wasn't just an extremely successful company, it was also my sweet family. In some ways, I was able to find the perfect balance between being a mum and starting my new venture. Growing Days fit perfectly. In 2013, my daughter Nora became our fourth daughter. I loved where my business was going, but I wanted to take a breather. I took a break from vintage furniture to spend some quality time with my family. This was just the thing I needed. After a couple of months, my phone started to ring. People were calling me and needing help with their interior decorating and home remodeling. They had mainly visited my house at the open houses that were held for furniture. After that, I gradually took on more clients, according to my own pace. Then I was able to have many clients, and had a business of home renovations. If you'd have told me that this business of mine could become an idea for a TV show on DIY Network I probably would have been astonished. It's true that I laugh when I think about it.
